Saturday morning cool grey and foggy Redhead Bluff 16/7/2011
Newcastle Beach water shot lunchtime 18/7/11. Good for longboards, this surfer breaks into a big grin as he shaves past a body boarder paddling out.
Newcastle Beach water shot lunchtime 18/7/11. A nice inside section trim.
Awsome sunset Redhead Little beach 18/7/11. I just timed my trip home from work nicley as the sun faded with a beautiful light show.

Some old stuff -
Girls watching Grant Kenny compete – Surf Carnival Redhead beach 1978
Redhead SLSC 75th Reunion 1977 – some long standing members.

More winter swells on the way.
Newcastle at lunchtime 8/7/2011 no one out and some big ones hammering in.
Black Neds Bay Swansea 30/6/11 – A nice place to go for a paddle, it’s only shallow so best go a high tide and you can see the fish moving around, watch out for the razor clams though.
Blacksmiths 29/6/11 choppy and raining but still a nice sight.
Overlooking Newcastle City May 2011 some of it old and some new.
Wendy Saddington and friends visiting Redhead beach 1969. Wendy sings the blues properly and has one of Australia’s best voices and played at Newcastle Wests Bus Stop Disco the night before. Bus Stop Disco hosted Australia’s best bands like the La De Das and Levi Smiths Clefts and I didn’t hear much disco music there as it wasn’t invented yet – that was a 70′s thing.
Milano’s Restaurant Mark’s Point Marina Feb 2011 – nice food and service and a nice view.

Another big June storm hit just north of Newcastle and we got the tail end of it’s fury.
Merewether Baths coping a flogging 14th June 2011.

The swell jacked up for Saturday morning and there were some gnarly waves at Redhead and some hot surfing. Blackies was going off too.
The paddle out was a bit hairy.
There were some great surfers out.
Blacksmiths was pumping off the Breakwater too.

I met young photographer Sam Glohe at Blacksmiths last Sunday when I was going out for a paddle. Sam took some water shots in the solid closing out but sunny conditions and his photos are awsome.

Cloud Wave at Redhead Beach – A southerly buster on the way around 1984. I took this and then headed for cover. The cloud looked like an enormous right hander.

Another photo from the same night as above – The rocks in front of the Redhead Shark Tower. The movement of the water over time has made it appear like clouds.
Redhead Beach in the 1940’s – Details of photo unknown.
Time exposure overlooking Redhead beach with a full moon rising in 1976.
Redhead 2nd Creek – June 2007 Storm.
The Pascha Bulker grounded at Nobbys and Redhead’s Second Creek finally got enough water to break its banks and flow again. A rare thing since the 3rd Creek was created and diverted the water flow.

Mark Richards, 4 times world surfing champion taking time out to surf a local break.
Martin Littlewood and Roy Lee making boards in the old Chicken Shed down along the Redhead Road around 1976. Both are now established respected board makers. Martin as Delta Designs in Margaret River and Roy as Pacific Dreams in Newcastle.
Windsurfing was big in the 70’s and Jim Wiley was one of the best shown here at Blacksmiths.
This was a big day at Redhead in 2001, the waves were huge and some of the local guys were ripping. Unknown surfer.
A classic line up at Byron Bay in the late 70’s
Bells Beach Surfing Competion in 1977. The surf was good and big for the finals. Sorry I can’t remember who it was.
Another good line up – Newcastle Cowrie Hole in 1978.
Out of control storm in June 2007 making a mess of Redhead beach. The storm grounded the Pascha Bulker at Nobby’s the day before.

Cold Chisel first came up to Newcastle in the late 1970’s and played at the local southern pubs and clubs the Orana, Belmont Sporties, Mawson, Swansea Workers and went on to bigger things quick. They always played their guts out and got a big Newcastle following. great guys too. Ian Moss wowed us with guitar, Jimmy Barnes revved the crowds, Don Walker’s songs made us listen and the beat was held by Phil and Steve.
Jimmy and the boys were outrageous and played great stuff. Ignatious was a showman and always up to mischief to say the least. Rumours were he left a lot of gigs in the roadies gear boxes. Here at he Belmont Sporties I had no idea what he was going to do next.
